Regulations

What Hong Kong requires

Current Transport Department and Customs guidance sets no fixed age cap, but every used import needs EPD emissions/noise approval, a Customs return, a Transport Department examination and a value-based First Registration Tax before it can be licensed. LHD applications are normally not accepted.

No fixed age cap stated

Current official guidance does not set a seven-year or any other fixed age cap — condition, emissions and Transport Department approval matter more than age.

Right-hand drive

Hong Kong drives on the left and uses RHD cars almost exclusively; LHD applications are normally not accepted outside special circumstances.

Customs, EPD & TD exam

Before use, the car needs an EPD emissions/noise approval and a Customs return, is examined by the Transport Department, and pays a First Registration Tax calculated on its taxable value.

First Registration Tax at your end. Hong Kong charges no customs duty on cars, but a steep, value-based First Registration Tax applies before licensing. It is paid to the HK authorities and is not in the JapanAuc landed cost — confirm the current bands with Hong Kong Customs / TD.

What it costs

Your JapanAuc landed cost to Hong Kong

Everything JapanAuc charges is in Japanese yen and transparent: the hammer price you win at, our commission (flat ¥35,000 up to ¥1,000,000, then 3.5%), the Export Package (auction-house fee + inland transport + export handling), then ocean freight. Added up, that’s your CIF Hong Kong price.

First Registration Tax, licensing and any local handling are charged separately in Hong Kong — not part of our quote. Use the calculator for a live CIF figure, then add your local clearing costs.
