Regulations

What Ireland requires

Ireland is an RHD market and sets no fixed import age limit. A vehicle arriving from outside the EU needs customs duty and VAT, registration with Revenue through the NCTS, and payment of Vehicle Registration Tax, normally within 30 days.

No fixed age limit

Revenue’s guidance sets no fixed import age limit — modern hybrids and older cars alike can be registered once taxed. Separate NCT roadworthiness obligations depend on age and registration status.

Right-hand drive market

Ireland is an RHD market, so Japanese vehicles fit without conversion — steering side is not itself an age-limit rule.

Customs/VAT, NCTS & VRT

A non-EU import needs customs duty and VAT, registration with Revenue through the NCTS, and Vehicle Registration Tax (value + CO₂ based), normally within 30 days.

Customs, VAT & VRT at your end. Ireland charges customs duty and VAT on a non-EU import, plus Vehicle Registration Tax on the open-market value and CO₂. These are paid to Irish Revenue and are not in the JapanAuc landed cost — confirm current rates before buying.

Step by step

How to import to Ireland with JapanAuc

1

Register & set a budget

Sign up free and place a refundable deposit. Tell us your target model and budget, and that it’s headed to Ireland.

2

Find eligible cars

We filter the auctions to the RHD car you want — hybrids are especially popular — and translate the auction sheet so you bid with confidence.

3

Win & inspect

We bid on your behalf. On winning, the car moves to our yard for real yard-in photos and export preparation.

4

Pay the balance invoice

After you’ve seen the yard-in photos, settle the balance (hammer price + commission + export + freight) by bank transfer, Wise or PayPal.

5

Export & ship

We complete export deregistration, book RoRo or a container to Dublin, and send you the Bill of Lading and full document pack.

6

Clear at Dublin

Your Irish customs agent pays the VRT and VAT and registers the car with the NCTS. We help with any document you need.

What it costs

Your JapanAuc landed cost to Dublin

Everything JapanAuc charges is in Japanese yen and transparent: the hammer price you win at, our commission (flat ¥35,000 up to ¥1,000,000, then 3.5%), the Export Package (auction-house fee + inland transport + export handling), then ocean freight. Added up, that’s your CIF Dublin price.

Irish VRT, VAT and the NCT test are charged separately on arrival — not part of our quote. Use the calculator for a live CIF figure, then add your local clearing costs.

FAQ

Importing to Ireland — common questions

Is there an age limit for Ireland?

No — Revenue guidance sets no fixed import age limit. NCT roadworthiness obligations depend on age and registration status but are separate from import eligibility; confirm the individual vehicle with Revenue/NCTS.

What is VRT?

Vehicle Registration Tax, based on the open-market selling price and CO₂ emissions, paid when registering with Revenue through the NCTS — normally within 30 days of arrival. It is outside our CIF quote.

Can I import right-hand-drive cars?

Yes — Ireland is an RHD market, matching Japan. Steering side is not itself an age-limit rule.

How long is shipping from Japan?

Roughly 40–55 days to Dublin or Cork, depending on the sailing.
